Republican Senate Goes Nuclear on Trump

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is livid at President Trump… over the President’s firing of whistleblowers.

On Thursday, the powerful Senator announced that he intended to “place holds” on approving all new Trump Administration nominees for higher office… until the President explains why he fired two federal watchdogs.

Trump had fired Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson in April, after informing Congress about the whistleblower complaint regarding Trump’s controversial phone call with Ukraine–which ultimately led to his impeachment.

Trump had also fired State Department Inspector General Steve Linick on May 15–reportedly at the urging of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was under investigation by Linick’s office at the time.

“All I want is a reason [for] firing these [people,” Grassley wrote on Twitter.

But he didn’t hold his punches–comparing Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton, who “didn’t want an inspector general” either.

“Canning a watchdog without good reason is bad,” Grassley added, in a follow-up tweet. “Never even hiring one is outrageous.”
