GOP Senate Turns On Mitt Romney

Looks like Utah’s newest Senator—Mitt Romney—is having some trouble making friends at work.

After Romney published a scathing attack on Trump’s character in the Washington Post, evidently his new Republicans colleagues in the Senate are avoiding him like the plague.

“It kind of felt like the same thing Trump does to everybody, Romney does to Trump. Smack you, and then want to negotiate,” said Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) to Politico. “It is funny to me that while he was complaining about President Trump’s personal attacks, he was personally attacking President Trump. I don’t know if he sees the irony in it.”

Politico also cited Sen. John Thune (R-SD), who serves as Senate Majority Whip, who criticized Romney writing such an editorial just as the new Senators were being sworn in—and Democrats retook the house.

“The timing was kind of curious,” Thune explained. “I wouldn’t have advised him to do it right now.”

Sen. David Perdue (R-Georgia), too, also came out swinging against the 2012 Republican presidential nominee… with his own op-ed in the Post.

Like others who have run for president and failed, Romney has taken a stance that smacks of jealousy and resentment. It does nothing but serve the radical liberal left and further divides conservatives,” Perdue wrote.

He added, “We have seen what a divided party means for Republicans. It means we help put Democrats in charge. It means we help them advance their radical liberal agenda, which has proven to fail the very people they claim to champion: the working women and men of America.”
